Over 11,000 Positions Vacant In IITs, IIMs, Central Universities: Ministry Of Education

New Delhi, 12th December 2022: According to the data from the Ministry of Education (MoE), over 11,000 teaching seats are vacant in central institutions, IITs, and IIMs across the nation.

 

This data was shared by Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister of Education.

 

Out of the 18,956 sanctioned positions, 6,180 assistant professor, associate professor, and professor positions are vacant in the 45 Central Universities.

 

 

There are around 4,502 out of 11,170 sanctioned positions that are vacant in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

 

Out of 1,566 faculty posts at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), 493 positions remain unfilled.

 

Pradhan said, “The process of vacancies occurring and being filled is ongoing. Central Universities are independent organizations created following relevant Central Acts. Their statutory bodies develop their application process in compliance with applicable laws, statutes, rules, and UGC norms or recommendations.”

 

The Minister added that he has ordered all higher education institutions (HEIs) to fill open positions using a mission-style approach.

 

In the central universities and IIMs, 961 positions are set aside for members of the SC category, 578 for members of the ST category, and 1,657 for members of the OBC. There are 643 and 301 open posts in the EWS and PWD categories, respectively.
