Over 2000 Kgs Of Seized Drugs Destroyed In Pune

Pune,  8 June 2022:  In line with the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (AKAM) Celebrations, offices of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, including the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, destroyed over 42054 kgs of narcotics substances, 1710845 tablets, 72757 bottles of cough syrup and 16336 vials of injections, in a coordinated manner across the country on 8th June, to deliver a strong message against drug abuse and trafficking. The coordinated destruction was virtually presided over by  Union Finance Minister. Nirmala Sitharaman. Several eminent personalities across the country also participated in the proceedings to raise awareness and deliver a strong message against drug abuse and trafficking.

As part of the proceedings, Pune Customs Commissionerate carried out pre-trial disposal of 2439 Kgs of drugs seized by Pune Customs Commissionerate and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Pune Regional Unit.  The drugs were destroyed at the state-of-the-art plasma gasification based incineration facility of M/s. Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited, MIDC, Ranjangaon. Dr. Mukta Puntambekar, Director and Dr. Sonali Kale, Co-ordinator, from Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre, Pune, also attended the proceedings.

Union Finance Minister commended the officers of CBIC on their relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking, and also appreciated the efforts of persons and organizations, such as Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre, who work extensively with youth, raise awareness about the drug menace and rehabilitate addicts.
