Pimpri, 9th April 2023: A special campaign is being implemented on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on behalf of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Action has been taken against 7,310 vehicle drivers in the past four months, from 1st December 2022 to 31st March 2023, with 17,156 vehicles checked and 11,070 people counseled.

The number of accidents on the expressway has been steadily increasing over the past few years due to excessive speed, driven in part by high-speed vehicles in the market that are in high demand among young people. Many motorists tamper with the speedometer even though the company sets a fixed speed limit. Various measures are being planned at the government level to reduce accidents on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

As part of this effort, the Vayuveg team of the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO office is taking action to check the speed of vehicles on the highway, lane cutting, and drivers who do not wear seat belts. In total, action has been taken against 2,682 drivers for overspeeding, 1,556 drivers for lane cutting, 2,128 drivers for not wearing seat belts, 347 drivers for parking in the wrong places, and four for talking on mobile phones while driving.

Further investigation found that 39 passengers did not have fitness certificates, 55 had no insurance, 10 did not have a permit, and 38 were transporting goods on the bus. Action has been taken against 294 vehicle drivers for various reasons, and 11,070 drivers have been counseled to follow traffic rules and road discipline over the past four months.

Atul Ade, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pimpri Chinchwad Office, emphasized that motorists should not drive fast and should use seat belts and follow lane-cutting rules. He also urged drivers to follow traffic rules while driving their vehicles.
