Artisans Accused of Fraud After Fleeing with Gold Worth Rs 1.25 Crore
Pune, 9th April 2023: A case of fraud has been registered against an artisan in Pune after they allegedly fled with gold worth half a crore.
Prashant Sunil Sasmal, a gold jewelry craftsman, has been accused of fraud by Keerti Chandulal Oswal, owner of Siddhesh Jewelers. The incident came to light when Oswal found that Sasmal had absconded with the gold worth Rs. 1,07,53,000 and another Rs. 18,54,000 belonging to Manoj Oswal.
Sasmal, who had been making jewelry for goldsmiths in Guruwar Peth and Raviwar Peth, had built a reputation for himself over the past few years. As a result, jewellers had faith in him, and they had entrusted him with their gold to make ornaments. However, when the fraud came to light, Kirti and Manoj Oswal, the two businessmen, filed a complaint with the Khadak Police Station.
Assistant Inspector Rakesh Jadhav is currently investigating the case under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sangeeta Yadav. The police have registered a case against Sasmal under the Indian Penal Code and are conducting a thorough investigation to locate the absconding artisan.
