Padma Bhushan, Isher Judge Ahluwalia honored with the ‘Scholar of the Year Award’
Pune, July 17, 2018: Ness Wadia College of Commerce, a college established when the first-Pre-degree commerce class was started, celebrated its 50th Foundation Day. On this auspicious day Padma Bhushan, Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Indian Economist and Chairperson, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) was conferred with the ‘Scholar of the Year Award’ at the hands of Dr. M. S. Wadia, Dean Academic Council, Modern Education Society, Pune.
Dr. Girija Shankar, Principal Ness Wadia College, Dr. Prakash Chaudhary, Vice-Principal, Ness Wadia College, Smita Kunde, Junior College Vice-Principal, Prof. D. A. Rajput, Secretary, Modern Education Society, Senate Members of Modern Education Society, Principal of many other colleges along with students and alumni graced the Golden Jubilee celebration with their presence. V.K. Nulkar, Dr. Deodhar, and Dr. Hemant Devasthali, Former Principal, Ness Wadia College were also felicitated on the occasion.
This award is conferred annually by Ness Wadia College of Commerce to eminent personalities for their valuable contribution to the field of Commerce, Economics, Finance, Management and Business Education.
Adding to the Foundation Day lecture on ‘India’s Urbanization: Challenges and Opportunities’ Dr. Ahluwalia threw light on the challenges of the urbanization, the need for efficiently managed urbanization and the criticality of social and political will for better planned towns and cities.
“Compared to other cities, Pune’s waste management is best”, said Ahluwalia. She further said, “Garbage segregation like recyclable, disposable and residual waste should be ensured along with recycling and reusing of water”.
During the Golden Jubilee year, the college has also planned to host Curricular, Co-Curricular and Extra-curricular activities for students, staff and alumni of the college.
Modern Education Society’s Ness Wadia College of Commerce, Pune established in 1969 is one of the prominent commerce colleges in India. At present there are around 5000 students enrolled including foreign students from about 20 countries in this college. In 1969, the Commerce wing, thus, came to be established as an independent college of commerce, named after Sir Ness Wadia, (1873-1952), the renowned industrialist and philanthropist of his times.
