Pakistan To Get New Prime Minister As Imran Khan Loses Trust Vote In National Assembly
New Delhi, 10th April 2022: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has lost the Saturday night’s vote on a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly. Khan became the first prime minister in the country’s history to be removed through a no-confidence motion.
Khan, 69, was not present in the lower house at the time of voting and MPs from his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) walked out of the house. With this, the path for the new Prime Minister has also been cleared in Pakistan. Shahbaz Sharif is being considered the main contender.
Meanwhile, PTI MP Faisal Javed said that Imran Khan left the prime minister’s official residence even before the vote on the no-confidence motion.
Faisal tweeted, “Just now Prime Minister Imran Khan has left the Prime Minister’s residence. He departed politely and did not bow down.”
Voting that began late in the night after a flurry of events throughout the day on Saturday gave the United Opposition the support of 174 members in the 342-member National Assembly, more than the majority needed to oust the prime minister from 172. Notably, no Pakistani prime minister has completed his five-year term.
