PAN Card for Children: Now You Can Apply Online From Home

New Delhi, 12th May 2025: Just like the Aadhaar card, a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card has become a crucial document for financial transactions in India. Whether it’s for opening a bank account, filing taxes, or investing in the stock market or mutual funds, a PAN card is often mandatory—even for minors.
The good news? You don’t need to step out of your house to apply for a child’s PAN card. The entire process can now be completed online, making it easier for parents planning early investments or savings in their child’s name.
Why Do Children Need a PAN Card?
If you’re considering financial planning that includes investments in mutual funds, stock markets, or any income-bearing schemes for your child, a PAN card is required in the child’s name. It also helps in establishing financial identity early on.
Once the child turns 18, they can apply for a new PAN card with an updated photo and signature, though the PAN number remains the same.
Required Documents:
Before starting the application, keep these documents ready:
- Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport (any one for ID proof)
- Birth certificate of the child
How to Apply for a Child’s PAN Card:
- Visit the NSDL official website (https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html)
- Choose “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” and select “Individual”.
- Fill in the child’s basic details and parent/guardian’s information.
- Upload scanned copies of the required documents.
- Pay the application fee and submit the form.
- After successful verification, the PAN card will be issued—digitally and/or physically.
In areas with poor internet or electricity access, you can also apply by visiting a nearby PAN service center or government office.
This simple process enables you to set up a financial future for your child without stepping out.
