Pavana Dam Release Alert: Citizens Along Riverbanks Advised to Stay Cautious as Discharge Increases
Pune, 26th July 2025: The Water Resources Department has issued a critical flood advisory for residents living along the banks of the Pavana River, following a significant increase in water inflow into the Pavana Dam due to ongoing rainfall in the catchment area.
As of 8:00 AM on Saturday, the dam is currently 86.34% full. With continued heavy rainfall upstream, the dam is receiving high inflows, prompting authorities to manage the reservoir levels by discharging water into the riverbed.
At present, 5,940 cusecs of water is being released from the dam’s spillway. The department has warned that by 9:00 AM, the discharge may be increased to 7,410 cusecs in a phased manner to control reservoir pressure, stated the Flood Control Cell of Pavana Dam, Khadakwasla Irrigation Division.
The volume of water released into the Pavana River may be further increased or reduced depending on rainfall intensity and inflow levels in the catchment area.
Authorities have strictly advised residents not to enter the river under any circumstances. People living close to the river are urged to move any farming equipment, livestock, or water pumps to safer locations immediately.
Local officials have been asked to alert residents in low-lying areas and ensure necessary precautions are taken to avoid mishaps.
