Pune, 26th July 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is in the final stages of preparing the draft ward delimitation plan for the upcoming civic elections. According to senior officials, the preliminary proposal is expected to be ready within the next week, with a public review window set to open in the third week of August.

A top official from PMC’s election department confirmed, “We aim to publish the draft by August 22. Once it’s released, citizens will have the opportunity to submit their feedback, suggestions, or objections. The delimitation will cover both the existing municipal limits and the newly merged areas.”

The process, however, has faced some delays due to the monsoon. “Currently, many civic personnel are engaged in flood prevention and rain-related duties. More staff will be available for the election work once the monsoon subsides,” the official added.

In a related development, the state government has extended the final deadline for the delimitation process from September 4 to October 6, potentially pushing the civic elections by a month.

The municipal election process will proceed in three major phases: delimitation of wards, allocation of reservations, and division of the assembly voters’ list into respective wards, followed by the actual election.

PMC’s election officer Prasad Katkar assured that preparations are on track. “We have the necessary manpower assigned for the delimitation process. The timeline issued by the state is being strictly followed, and all related work will be completed as per schedule,” he said.

The forthcoming civic elections will be the first to include the expanded municipal boundaries after the addition of several villages to PMC’s jurisdiction. The ward restructuring is expected to significantly impact political equations across Pune.
