Pimpri, 28th December 2023: In a significant move, property owners in Pimpri-Chinchwad will no longer be burdened with user fees as the Maharashtra State Government temporarily suspended its collection. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has promptly adapted its computerized property tax billing system in response to the Maharashtra Government’s directive, ensuring that property owners can now pay their basic property taxes without the additional user fee.

The Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra State Government took action by temporarily suspending the collection of user charges. A directive was issued to the PCMC on the 20th of the month, instructing them not to collect user charges until a meeting with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is convened to discuss the matter. Following this, Yashwant Dange, Assistant Commissioner of the Health Department, directed the Taxation and Tax Collection Department to implement the Maharashtra Government order.

Subsequently, the Taxation and Tax Collection Department swiftly adjusted the computer system to align with the Maharashtra Government’s decision. The implementation of the user fee suspension order commenced in the online billing system for citizens on December 26. Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh has appealed to property owners to cooperate with the PCMC by settling their arrears and current taxes.

The order from the Urban Development Department explicitly states the suspension of user fee collection, prompting the necessary changes in the Taxation and Tax Collection Department’s computer system. This move comes as a relief for property owners, providing them with financial respite and simplifying the property tax payment process.

PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh said, “By the directive issued by the Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra State Government, the collection of user fees has been temporarily suspended. Consequently, the computer system of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department has undergone modifications.”
