PhonePe collaborates with Pimpri Chinchwad & Pune Cyber Police to optimize Digital Fraud Investigations in the region
Pune, 26th February 2026: PhonePe announced the successful completion of a specialized Cybercrime Training Workshop for Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune Cyber Crime Police. The training was supported by CP Vinaykumar Chobey (IPS), DCP Shivaji Pawar, and ACP Vishal Hire. The sessions were also attended by senior officials, Inspector of Police Pravin Swami, Police Sub-Inspector Vaibhav Patil, and Senior Police Inspector Swapnali Shinde.
The training program is an essential step toward uniting evolving payments technology and law enforcement. By decoding the lifecycle of PhonePe transaction flows, the training empowered officers to track digital footprints faster and more accurately.
Other key themes covered in the training:
- Understanding fund movement: Officials gained critical insights into how funds move through escrow accounts. This knowledge allows investigators to identify the digital paper trail even when funds are layered across multiple merchant accounts.
- Fraud trends & investigation protocol: By analyzing the latest fraud trends such as Digital Arrest and Investment Scams, the session empowered law enforcement with streamlined protocols to retrieve beneficiary data for required action.
- PhonePe’s reporting protocol: Officers were trained to utilize PhonePe’s dedicated portals to accelerate the freezing of fraudulent accounts during the critical “Golden Hour” – which is the hour right after a cyber attack when reporting is crucial for cybercrime victims.
Cybercriminals in Pune are shifting their tactics from hacking to sophisticated social engineering – manipulating victims through fear or greed. The region has seen a rise in Fake Trading Apps and Digital Arrest scams that use psychological pressure to extort money. The training specifically addressed these threats, including the emerging use of AI and Deepfakes for impersonation.

Senior Police Inspector Swapnali Shine, Pune City, Cyber Crime shared her thoughts, “PhonePe’s Nodal officer visited Cyber Police Station, Pune and imparted proper guidance to the Cyber Police Officers and Police Amaldar regarding the technical problems of the police department and the methods available to contact PhonePe. This will be useful to help cyber crime victims get their money back if the amount is transferred through PhonePe’s platform. By aligning our investigative expertise with PhonePe’s secure framework, we are significantly enhancing our fraud prevention and regulatory enforcement capabilities.”
