Pimple Saudagar, 30th January 2024: In response to the increasing number of pet dogs in elite societies, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has introduced a one-acre ‘Dog Park’ at Govind Chowk in Pimple Saudagar. With the Veterinary Department distributing twelve hundred dog licenses presently, areas like Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Nilakh, Navi Sangvi, Rahatani, and Pimple Gurav are witnessing a surge in the number of dog license holders.

Dog-loving citizens have been facing challenges with walking their pets in public spaces, leading to unsanitary conditions in certain areas. Responding to the demand from these citizens, the newly established ‘Dog Park’ aims to provide a safe, off-leash play area for dogs. The park incorporates self-meeting arrangements for pet owners and features distinct sections for on-leash and off-leash activities.

The park’s design includes separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring a secure and enjoyable environment for all canine residents. Even for more assertive dogs, designated spaces are available to engage in various activities. The initiative recognizes that residents in apartment-based living may lack sufficient space for their dogs to exercise and play, making the ‘Dog Park’ a welcomed solution.

Sandeep Khot, Veterinary Assistant, expressed optimism about the benefits the park will bring to the dog-loving community in the city. He stated, “The dog-loving citizens of the city will definitely benefit from the facilities provided in the dog park. Also, the Dog Park being the first park in Pimpri-Chinchwad will become a rightful place for dog lovers to have their pets.”

The ‘Dog Park’ is not only a functional space for dogs to play but also acknowledges the sentimental value that pet owners attach to their furry companions. This initiative reflects a positive step towards fostering a healthier and more enjoyable environment for both pets and their owners in the community.

Aryan Devne, a resident of PCMC and proud owner of an Indie breed dog named Shelly expressed, “This dog park by PCMC offers my Shelly a secured environment for off-leash play and socializing with other dogs. It will help me to train her neatly by also speaking to other dog owners. Also, the accessibility to this dog park is nice. This is a nice initiative by PCMC for us dog owners.”

Yogita Nerekar, residing in Pimple Saudagar and proud owner of a female dog named Sahara, expressed, “This park is very close to my house. Daily walks with my dog become dull for both of us. Although she is well-trained, neither I nor my friends, who also own dogs, have the time due to jobs to facilitate play and socialization among them. PCMC’s introduction of this dog park has added an element of entertainment and excitement to our morning walks, making it more enjoyable for me and my dog.”
