Pimpri-Chinchwad: 33.9% Citizens Have Developed Antibodies Against COVID-19

Pune, November 3, 2020: Around 8.5 lakh citizens of the Pimpri-Chinchwad area have developed antibodies against the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), indicating they have come in contact with the virus at some point. The survey was held by the Dr DY Patil Research Centre and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) between October 7-17. A total of 5,000 blood samples were taken from a group of 25 people from 200 different areas of the city.

According to the survey, about 33.9 percent of the total population in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area were exposed to the infection. At present, the statistics of corona infected patients in the city stands at 88,000 out of which over 84,000 patients have recovered from the disease. The technical survey was completed by ten teams covering citizens from slum areas, squatter houses and societies.

PCMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar has stated that there are more women than men who have developed antibodies against the virus.

The highest prevalence is in the age group of 51 to 65 years and its rate is 35.5 percent. Adolescents between the ages of 12 to18 years old are 24.9 per cent. It is 29.7 percent in the age group of 11 to 30 years, 31.2 percent in the age group of 31 to 59 years and 28.2 percent in the age group of 66 years. The average mortality rate due to Covid-19 is 0.18 percent.
