Pune: Kharadi Residents Demand A Separate Post office and Pincode For The Area
Pune, November 3, 2020: While the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to sell or rent amenity spaces in their jurisdiction, the Kharadi Residents Association (KRA) has placed their demands to have their own post office and a separate Pincode for their area. Kharadi has over 50,000 residents – all of them have to travel to Viman Nagar to drop a speed post or registered post with acknowledgement due (AD) or buy investment plans at the post office. The residents association has stated that despite a large number of people residing in Kharadi, the area doesn’t have a post office.
Kharadi boasts a number of reputed multinational companies (MNCs) and is one of the leading IT hubs in Pune, yet it lacks basic amenities including no post office facility. At present, the nearest post office available for the Kharadi residents is in the Indian Air Force (IAF) area where entry is restricted. Therefore, there are often limitations to visit the facility, moreover, the residents have to cover a long distance to reach the post office, stated Nitin Memane, president of Kharadi Residents Association.
The residents had also met the Pune region Postmaster General Colonel Syed Fazil Husain Rizvi and shared their concerns. Later, MS Badwe, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (SSPO) of the Pune City East division, visited and inspected the site proposed in the development plan (DP).
“A post office in the area will benefit thousands of residents besides business area of the World Trade Centre (WTC) and EON IT Park. The EON IT Park, alone, has a population of over 50,000 residents in Kharadi. A need for separate post office and Pincode is the need of the hour. It will also reduce the burden on the postal staff at Dunkirk Lines post office as currently, we share the postal pin code with the entire Viman Nagar and Vadgaon Sheri area. Having a post office will enhance the living of the residents”, said KRA secretary Mehzabin Saiyed.
