Pimpri-Chinchwad: A Fake Transporter Arrested For Extorting Money To Shift Vehicle To Other City

Pimpri Chinchwad, December 14, 2020: The anti-extortion cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police has arrested a fake cargo service provider on Thursday. The accused had allegedly tried to extort money from a kothrud resident, after withholding his vehicle which was supposed to be transported to Mangalore.

The accused has been identified as Virendrakumar Ramkishan Puniya (25), resident of Transport Nagar, Nigdi. This incident came to light after victim Rajesh Naik was duped of Rs 8,000 and decided to lodge a complain with Pimpri Chinchwad police.

According to police,Naik got a transfer from Pune to Mangalore and wanted to shift his vehicle to Mangalore. So he contacted Puniya who duped him under the fake pretext of being an employee of a movers and packers company.

The accused also created a website of the fake company where people would contact him to get their services availed. Puniya also provided fake information about his name and claimed to be Sonu Chaudhary, as mentioned on the website. However,after negotiating, Naik decided to pay Puniya Rs 11,000 for transporting his vehicle.

Puniya asked him to pay 8,000 in advance and picked his vehicle from his doorsteps. He later took the loaded truck and demanded Naik to pay him Rs 9,000 more or he would face consequence. Post which Naik contacted his friend who lodged a complaint with the Police.

After the complaint was lodged, police immediately tracked him by tracing his phone information, laid a trap and arrested him at Transport Nagar, Nigdi.

It has also come to light that the accused used several fake names such as Sonu Chaudhary, Sonu Kumar, Vikram Singh. Further investigation is underway and other names of the accused are yet to be released.
