Pimpri-Chinchwad: PCMC Cuts Water Supply To Silver Oaks Society Over Rs 46.67 Lakh Tax Dues

Pimpri, 19th March 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has disconnected six of the 12 water connections to Silver Oaks Housing Society in Moshi-Borhadewadi due to outstanding tax dues of ₹46,67,287. Despite multiple notices, the residents failed to clear the arrears, prompting the civic body to take this strict action. The PCMC has warned that if more than 40% of flat owners in any society have pending tax dues, the water supply will be cut off.
According to the PCMC’s tax collection department, the ‘A’ building of the society has 48 flats, of which 20 owners collectively owe ₹7,65,331 in unpaid taxes. In the ‘B’ building, 70 out of 107 flat owners have pending dues amounting to ₹35,51,547. Meanwhile, in the ‘C’ building, 18 out of 54 flat owners have arrears of ₹3,50,419. The total outstanding tax across the three buildings stands at ₹46,67,287.
The society receives water supply through 12 connections, six of which have now been disconnected. The PCMC has warned that if the outstanding dues are not cleared within two days, the remaining six connections will also be cut off.
In recent years, despite an increase in property tax revenue, water bill collection had lagged due to manpower shortages in the Water Supply Department. To streamline the process, the PCMC transferred water bill collection responsibilities to the Tax Collection and Assessment Department last year. For the current financial year, the civic body aims to collect ₹100.78 crore in water taxes. By March 17, they had recovered ₹71.86 crore, leaving a target of ₹28.82 crore to be achieved in the next 13 days.
Assistant Commissioner of the PCMC’s Tax Collection and Assessment Department, Avinash Shinde, has urged the society’s residents to pay their overdue taxes promptly. He reiterated that if more than 40% of flat owners in any society have outstanding dues, their water connections will be cut off.
