Pimpri Chinchwad: PCMC To Install 33,743 LED Street Lights

Pimpri, January 16, 2021: In various parts of Pimpri Chinchwad, the city’s civic administration has installed 49,748 street lights and is planning to install more of 33,743 LED streetlights. To install these streetlights the agency will be paid Rs 50 lakh per month, informed Mayor Usha alias Mai Dhore and the ruling party leader Namdev Dhake.

Through the Urban Development Department of the State Government under the National Street Light Program (NSLP), an agreement has been signed with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a subsidiary of the Union Ministry of Power, to install energy-saving LED street lights in place of traditional street lights.

LED streetlights in PCMC limits approved in September 2019

On June 4, 2018, Maharashtra’s Urban Development Department had decided instead of buying traditional lamps, it will be mandatory to install LED lights from EESL which saves electricity. Accordingly, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) too approved installing LED streetlights through EESL in their jurisdiction at its general meeting in September 2019.

LED fittings have been installed on the roads, parks and playgrounds. The survey work of street lights has been completed and the total number of street lights of different types and capacities installed is 83,491. Since the year 2012-2013, 49,748 energy-saving LED lights have been installed by the civic body. The remaining 33,743 LED streetlights are yet to be installed.

LED Streetlights to be installed from next week

Removing traditional lamps and installing LED streetlights will save up to 50 percent of energy. LED streetlights will be installed from next week and will be completed in the next three months. PCMC will not have to incur any initial cost for this project. The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 40 crore. According to the weightage and number of lamps to be installed, EESL will be paid in 84 installments by PCMC, around Rs 50 lakhs will be paid each month including all taxes.
