Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Seize Illegal Firearms, Sharp Weapons in Special Drive
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 3rd September 2025: Acting on the directives of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police conducted a focused campaign from 13 August to 2 September 2025 targeting individuals in possession of illegal firearms and deadly sharp weapons.
During the operation, police stations and crime branch units across the commissionerate registered 40 cases related to illegal firearms, arresting 45 individuals. Authorities seized 50 pistols along with 79 live cartridges. Simultaneously, action against people carrying knives, swords, sickles, and other sharp objects led to 94 cases, 66 arrests, and the confiscation of 116 weapons, including 91 sickles, 12 swords, 4 choppers, and 6 knives/daggers.
The drive also extended to monitoring social media, targeting individuals who posted images or videos displaying illegal weapons. Authorities have announced that the campaign will continue in the coming weeks.
A significant breakthrough came from Crime Branch Unit 4, which apprehended Pawan Devendra Baneti (24), a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Slum, Pimple Gurav, a released offender, and recovered two pistols and two cartridges from him. The operation was overseen by Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad, DCPs Vishal Gaikwad, Sandeep Atole, Dr. Bapu Bangar, and Shivaji Pawar, along with assistant commissioners, police inspectors, and all crime branch units.
