Pimpri: Legal Action Taken Against Laundry Operator for Discharging Contaminated Water into Pavana River
Akurdi, 26th July 2023: In response to a serious environmental violation, legal action has been taken against the operator of Vighnaharta Clearance Laundry and Drycleaners Services in Chinchwadenagar.
The laundry operator, identified as Swapnil Sase, was found to be discharging untreated, contaminated water from washed clothes directly into the Pavana River. As a consequence, the laundry establishment has been sealed.
The case came to light when Amol Gorkhe, the health inspector of the municipal corporation’s environment department, lodged a complaint with the Chinchwad police station. Following the complaint, a case was registered against Swapnil Sase for his actions.
Sanjay Kulkarni, Associate City Engineer of the Environment Department, reported a large amount of white foam on the water in the Pavana river near the Kejubai dam on July 16. In response to concerns raised by MP Srirang Barne, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh initiated an investigation into the matter.
Upon verification, the Vighnaharta Clearance Laundry and Drycleaners Services owned by Swapnil Sase was inspected. It was discovered that the contaminated water from the laundry was being directly discharged into the river without any proper treatment. As a result, the municipal authorities issued a notice to Sase and subsequently filed a complaint with the Chinchwad police station, leading to the registration of a case.
Notably, the premises where the laundry is located are owned by a Chief Clerk of the Municipal Corporation, who is a former officer of the Federation of Employees. The Municipal Commissioner, Shekhar Singh, is now contemplating appropriate action against the employee who allowed the laundry to operate without a proper license.
