According to police, patients don’t have to pay any fees at the PCMC’s Auto Cluster COVID Hospital. Dr Jadhav took Rs one lakh from relatives of one Surekha Ashok Wable of Chikhali for providing a bed at the hospital. He gave Rs 20,000 as ‘cut practice’ to the two doctors for referring the patient. Later the patient died during treatment.

Her relatives informed BJP Corporators Kundan Gaikwad and Vikas Dolas who took up the matter with the PCMC administration during general body meeting on April 30. An FIR was registered today and the three doctors were arrested.

Meanwhile, Dr Amol Holkunde, CEO of Sparsh Healthcare, has refuted the allegations. He said that PCMC pays them and the patient does not have to pay any fees. He alleged that some private hospitals take money from patients under the pretext of helping them get a bed. They return the amount if the bed is not available at the Auto Cluster facility and keep the amount if the bed is given. Our staff is not involved, he said.
