Pistol and 28 Cartridges Seized at Pune Airport; Passenger Arrested

Viman Nagar, 5th January 2025: A pistol and 28 cartridges were seized from the bag of a passenger at Pune Airport. The passenger, identified as Deepak Sitaram Kate (32), a resident of Sarati village in Indapur taluka of Pune district, was detained by airport security and later arrested by the police.
The incident occurred around 10:45 AM during routine security checks for an IndiGo Airlines flight to Hyderabad. Security Officer Preeti Bhosale detected the weapon, two magazines, and ammunition in Kate’s bag while using a metal detector. Upon being questioned, Kate refused to provide an explanation for carrying the firearm.
Following the discovery, Bhosale filed a complaint with the airport police station, Pune city police. Kate was promptly handed over to the police for further investigation.
Sub-Inspector Sandeep Karpe, who is leading the investigation, stated that an inquiry is underway to determine why Kate was in possession of the weapon and ammunition. Authorities are also investigating whether Kate had the necessary permits or if there were any suspicious motives behind his actions.
