PM Modi Criticizes Congress Culture in Letter Signed by 600 Lawyers to CJI

New Delhi, 28th March 2024: Over 600 attorneys, including renowned Advocate Harish Salve, have penned a letter to Chief Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud expressing solidarity with the judiciary amidst issues of pressure from outside. In the note, they highlighted efforts by what they described as a ‘Special Group’ to weaken the judicial system, emphasizing the requirement to defend the stability of the courts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in response, criticized the Congress Party, stating that intimidating and threatening others is the old culture of Congress.

The letter, signed by 600 prominent lawyers from across the nation, expresses a unified stand against any efforts to compromise the independence of the court. The attorneys emphasized in their written appeal the critical role that courts play in maintaining the rule of law and called for coordinated actions to protect judicial independence.

The attorneys reiterated their shared duty to safeguard the integrity of the legal system and restated their commitment to adhering to the law in a letter to the Chief Justice. They expressed worries about any possible intrusions on the judiciary’s jurisdiction and emphasized the need to fend off outside pressures to maintain the administration of justice in a fair and impartial manner.
