Mumbai, 8th May 2025: The Maharashtra State Primary Education Council has issued directives to fill class-wise and subject-wise vacancies for principals and teachers in 827 selected PM Shree schools across the state, ensuring appointed staff remain in the same school for four to five years. This move aims to provide continuous and quality education, making PM Shree schools model institutions that guide nearby schools with equitable and joyful learning environments. The council emphasizes the principals’ crucial role in fostering cooperation among parents, teachers, and students, organizing training, and facilitating smooth implementation of the PM Shree scheme aligned with the National Education Policy. The decision follows a review meeting chaired by Anilkumar Singhal, Additional Secretary of the Central Ministry of Education, held in Hyderabad on April 22. Filling these vacancies is expected to strengthen consistent leadership and effective educational practices in PM Shree schools, setting a benchmark for others to follow[1].

The PM Shree schools have been selected to be developed as guiding institutions that promote equality and high-quality education in a supportive atmosphere. The appointed principals and teachers will be responsible for maintaining this standard and participating in various training programs to enhance educational outcomes. The Maharashtra Primary Education Council’s circular clarifies that the appointed principals and teachers must serve regularly in the same school for a minimum of four to five years to ensure stability and continuity in school development. This directive aligns with the broader goal of implementing the National Education Policy provisions effectively in these schools.

Additionally, the Maharashtra State Examination Council is planning to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in August-September for candidates with D.Ed and B.Ed qualifications, which is mandatory for teacher recruitment. Recently, recruitment for 11,085 teachers under Zilla Parishad and local bodies was completed, with appointments pending due to the model code of conduct for elections; these teachers will now be appointed and required to serve in the same district until retirement. This reinforces the state’s commitment to filling teaching positions with qualified personnel and ensuring long-term service in designated schools.
