PMC Elections 2026: Aba Bagul Targets Slum-Free Pune City, Raises Concerns Over SRA Projects
Pune, 8th January 2026: Shiv Sena leader and former deputy mayor Aba Bagul on Wednesday said he is committed to providing legal “in-situ ownership homes” to slum dwellers through self-redevelopment and working towards making Pune a slum-free city. He said the responsibility to safeguard the interests of slum residents and eliminate slums across Pune has been entrusted to him by Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Addressing a campaign meeting at Shahu Vasahat in Ward No. 36 (Sahakarnagar–Padmavati), Bagul, the Shiv Sena’s official candidate from the ward, said every eligible slum resident would be given a rightful house at the same location through self-redevelopment. “Ensuring dignified housing for slum dwellers is not just a scheme for me, it is my commitment,” he said.
The public meeting, attended by Bagul and the three candidates from his panel, received an enthusiastic response from residents. Locals raised concerns over issues related to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects, alleging delays and exploitation.
Responding to the grievances, Bagul criticised the functioning of the SRA, claiming that slum residents are suffering due to administrative chaos and developer-driven interests. He alleged that slum dwellers are being held hostage for the benefit of a handful of developers and that coercive tactics are being used to deprive the poor of their shelter. Bagul reiterated his strong opposition to the existing SRA model.
Referring to localities such as Shahu Vasahat, Date Bus Stop area, Tavare Colony, Annabhau Sathe Vasahat (54/2), Sanjay Nagar and Padmavati Vasahat, Bagul said improving the quality of life of every slum resident in the ward remains his priority. He asserted that Shiv Sena’s policy ensures that no slum dweller’s rights will be taken away.
Bagul further assured residents that under self-redevelopment, eligible beneficiaries would receive in-situ homes measuring 650 square feet. He said the party leadership has given clear direction to protect the interests of slum dwellers while pursuing the goal of a slum-free Pune city.
