Baner, 13th January 2026: Expressing strong confidence ahead of the civic polls, former corporator Amol Balwadkar on Tuesday said the people of Ward No. 9 would “surely give their approval” to the developmental work carried out over the past 11 years, ensuring a decisive victory for all four Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidates in the ward.

The official NCP candidates contesting from Ward 9 are Gayatri Medhe-Kokate, Baburao Chandere, Parvati Nimhan and former corporator Amol Balwadkar. According to party leaders, the election campaign in the ward has largely been driven by citizens themselves, reflecting public involvement and support.

Balwadkar said that during his long association with the ward, several people-centric initiatives had been implemented on a sustained basis. Through local contact offices in Baner and Balewadi, his team helped residents resolve a wide range of civic and personal issues, from documentation such as Aadhaar and PAN cards to day-to-day grievances.

He also highlighted that for the past four years, more than 25 traffic wardens have been deployed to ease congestion in key areas.

Referring to cleanliness initiatives, Balwadkar said the ‘Mission Nirmal’ campaign helped keep nearly 100 km of the area clean over a 100-day period. He also pointed out that for the last 10 consecutive years, Diwali kits had been distributed to around 15,000 families, ensuring that no household was left in the dark during the festival.

Among other major works cited were the implementation of the 24×7 water supply scheme, construction of the Sus–Pashan Ghat bridge, development of smart streets and smart lighting, establishment of open gyms, plantation and green initiatives, and the construction of the PMC hospital at Baner. He also said that a Quick Response Team (QRT) had been set up to address daily complaints related to roads, water supply, drainage and streetlights with swift action.

Balwadkar further listed initiatives focused on women, senior citizens and youth, including sports programmes, yoga day celebrations and marathons, as part of sustained community engagement in the ward.

Speaking on the occasion, Balwadkar said, “The love, support and solidarity shown by the people of the ward during challenging times is my greatest strength. The residents are well aware of the work done — from contact offices and traffic wardens to Mission Nirmal, Diwali kits for 15,000 families over 10 years, and the 24×7 water scheme. The trust of the people stands firmly with us, and on the strength of this public confidence, I am certain that all four NCP candidates will win in Ward 9.”

Party leaders said the campaign reflects a strong emphasis on continuity, development and grassroots engagement in the ward ahead of polling.
