Pune, 5th May 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 56 locations across the city that are likely to remain vulnerable to waterlogging this monsoon, as long-term infrastructure works cannot be completed before the rainy season.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has directed all ward offices to deploy temporary systems for rapid water drainage at these locations, along with adequate manpower and machinery.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on pre-monsoon preparedness held on Monday. The civic body has identified a total of 120 waterlogging-prone spots in the city. While work at 64 locations is expected to be completed within the next month, officials said major works at the remaining 56 sites will take longer and are unlikely to be finished before the monsoon.

The pending works include construction of new stormwater drains, installation of additional chambers, replacement of old and undersized drainage lines, and development of a proper rainwater disposal network. Officials noted that such projects require substantial funding and typically take six to eight months to complete.

In view of the delays, the commissioner has ordered immediate short-term measures to minimise flooding and ensure quick drainage during heavy rainfall.

During the meeting, Ram also raised concerns over the slow pace of desilting work in drains and nullahs. He pointed out that several projects remain incomplete and instructed officials to expedite the process.
To strengthen monitoring, all ward offices have been directed to submit daily progress reports instead of weekly updates.

Officials said the focus this monsoon will be on managing the situation through temporary measures, while long-term infrastructure solutions will be taken up after the rainy season.
