PMC Moves Ahead with Sun City Karvenagar Link Road Project to Ease Traffic Congestion
Pune, 16th June 2026: In a significant step towards improving traffic management and urban connectivity, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process for the development of the proposed Sun City Karvenagar Link Road, a key infrastructure project aimed at reducing congestion in the rapidly growing Vadgaon Budruk, Sun City, and Karvenagar areas.
The proposal, submitted through a resolution by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, has been forwarded for public feedback, according to Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale. Civic officials believe the project will play a crucial role in streamlining traffic flow and maximising the utility of the new river bridge currently being constructed in the area.
As per the proposal, the road identified in the sanctioned Development Plan (DP) will connect Survey No. 31 of the Indian Hume Pipe Company premises in Vadgaon Budruk, pass through Survey No. 11 along Sun City Road, and extend up to the new bridge linking the locality with Karvenagar. With vehicular traffic increasing steadily in these neighbourhoods, civic representatives have emphasised the urgent need to develop the missing road network.
The proposal also includes the construction of a 30-metre-wide road between Survey No. 31 of the Indian Hume Pipe Company and Survey Nos. 23 and 24 of Prayeja City. According to civic representatives, this stretch should be treated as a priority project considering the area’s rapid urbanisation and future transportation requirements.
To facilitate the project, the PMC has proposed acquiring land falling under the road alignment through the prescribed legal process. The civic body may utilise mechanisms such as Transferable Development Rights (TDR), Floor Space Index (FSI) incentives, or monetary compensation to compensate affected landowners.
Officials said that timely completion of the land acquisition process would help avoid delays in execution and ensure the project is completed expeditiously. The proposal has been described as an important public infrastructure initiative that will strengthen Pune’s transport network and address the increasing traffic burden in the western parts of the city.
The resolution has been seconded by Corporator Jayashree Bhukar, and further action on the project will be taken after receiving feedback from stakeholders and the public.
Once implemented, the Sun City–Karvenagar Link Road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Vadgaon Budruk and Karvenagar, reduce travel time for commuters, and provide long-term relief from traffic congestion in one of Pune’s fastest-growing residential corridors.
