Pune, June 10, 2020:The Standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) yesterday approved the proposal of the widening of 323 roads from 6 meters to 9 meters. The majority of members supported this proposal. However, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress and Shiv Sena opposed the proposal.

The opposition parties have called for a probe into the proposal which favours builders, saying the matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

The extended usage of transfer of development rights (TDR) in Peth areas will also encourage construction and redevelopments. Roads with 103 km length will be widened. Hemant Rasane, chairman of the Standing committee, stated, “Widening will only be done after checking the ground reality and with the opinions of the locals. If the locals oppose it, it’ll be cancelled.”

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress have demanded to the Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, that people should be allowed to use TDR and premium FSI on the roadside properties as previously. Two days ago Pawar had warned that the government would intervene if only selected roads’ width is increased.
