Pune, 28th July 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to revamp its bus stop infrastructure by constructing modern, commuter-friendly bus stops inspired by Delhi’s model. These smart stops will go beyond displaying advertisements, offering crucial passenger information and shelter from weather conditions such as rain and extreme heat.

According to officials, a PMPML delegation will soon visit Delhi to study its advanced bus stop infrastructure. A discussion regarding this initiative has already taken place between PMPML Chairman and Pune Municipal Commissioner, indicating the administration’s commitment to upgrading public transport facilities.

PMPML aims to make its transportation network more passenger-centric through a series of reforms, and the modernization of bus stops is a key component of this strategy. The new stops are envisioned to be smart, well-equipped, and informative—helping to enhance the travel experience for daily commuters in Pune.

Under this ambitious plan, approximately 1,700 new bus stops are proposed in the first phase. These will be built under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, ensuring efficient implementation with private participation.

Delhi’s bus stops feature digital displays, CCTV surveillance, real-time bus information panels, dedicated spaces for public service messaging, and designs tailored for women’s safety. PMPML intends to replicate these amenities in Pune to create a more efficient, safe, and commuter-focused transit environment.
