Police Arrest Alleged Mastermind of Maharashtra TET Paper Leak Racket From Bihar

Pune/Thane, 25th July 2026 : In a major breakthrough in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case, the Bhiwandi police have arrested the alleged mastermind, Bijendra Kumar Gupta, from Bihar after an extensive multi-state search.

Gupta, a resident of Samastipur in Bihar, was brought to Pune airport following his arrest and is being taken to Bhiwandi for further interrogation. His arrest comes after three other accused were apprehended earlier in the investigation, with police saying the probe eventually led them to the alleged kingpin of the paper leak racket.

Investigators suspect Gupta was the mastermind behind a large-scale examination paper leak syndicate. Police are now examining the financial transactions linked to the racket, the extent of the network, and the role of other individuals associated with it.

As part of the investigation, Thane police had conducted raids across several states, including Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Search operations were also carried out in Patna and Samastipur before Gupta was finally traced and arrested after allegedly remaining underground for an extended period.

Earlier, police had arrested three accused — Rajeev Kumar, Akash Kumar and Dheeraj Kumar — after receiving a tip-off about the TET paper leak on June 27. The trio, who had travelled from Delhi to Thane, were found in possession of a set of questions allegedly belonging to the Maharashtra TET examination. According to police, all three were working for Gupta.

Following the exposure of the paper leak, the Maharashtra TET examination scheduled for June 28 was cancelled. Investigators suspect the leaked question papers were being sold for crores of rupees.

According to sources associated with the investigation, Gupta has allegedly been involved in examination paper leak operations for nearly 25 years. Police claim his name has surfaced in several recruitment examination paper leak cases in the past and that he was allegedly active in similar rackets across the country.

Gupta’s name had also figured in a sting operation following the 2024 NEET paper leak controversy. During the operation, he allegedly admitted to his involvement in multiple examination paper leaks and was purportedly heard claiming that paper leaks would never stop, saying that even if arrested, he would secure bail and continue the racket. These claims remain part of the investigation and are yet to be tested in court.

With Gupta’s arrest in the Maharashtra TET paper leak case, investigators are expected to intensify efforts to uncover the full extent of the alleged network and identify others involved.
