Poona College Event Highlights the Humane Side of Law Enforcement in Student-Police Dialogue
Camp, 22nd October 2023: Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce took a significant step in fostering a closer connection between the police and students by organizing a Police-Students Interaction event on the 20th of October 2023. The event, held in the college’s Conference Hall, was a resounding success and witnessed the active participation of students from the BBA-CA and BSc (Computer Science) programs.
The Police-Students Interaction program at Poona College achieved its objectives by raising awareness among students about critical societal issues, fostering a more empathetic understanding of the police force, and ultimately strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the student community. Through this program, students gained knowledge, a changed perspective, and a sense of empowerment, with the potential to inspire active civic engagement and cooperation with the police in creating a safer and more harmonious society.
Under the able guidance of the esteemed leadership team, including Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Vice Principals Dr. Iqbal Shaikh and Prof. Mohinuddin Khan, and Head Dr. Shabana Shaikh, the event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests. Narayan Shirgaonkar, the Assistant Commissioner of Police from Pune City, and Bhagyeshri Salunke, Secretary of R K Bahuddeshiya Sanstha, were invited as guest speakers for this enlightening session.
The event commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by the Head of the Computer Science and BBA (CA) department, Dr. Shabana Shaikh, who set the tone for the interaction by extending a heartfelt welcome to the guest speakers and students alike.
Prof. Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, the Principal of the Poona College, highlighted the critical role of the police in maintaining law and order in society. He stressed how students could actively contribute to the community and support the police force in their mission.
ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar, in his address, took the opportunity to enlighten and empower the students on pressing issues that demand their attention. He discussed topics such as Social Media Misuse, Drug Addiction, Student Dropout Rates, and Domestic Violence. He aimed to bridge the gap between students and the police, as the latter are sometimes perceived as distant and insensitive.
ACP Shirgaonkar’s friendly and informative interactions with the students aimed to change their perspective on law enforcement, making them aware of the humane side of the police force.
