Poona College holds National Symposium on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy
Camp, 13th April 2023: On the eve of the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Department of Political Science and Economics, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Poona College, in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Maharashtra, and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Savitribai Phule University, Pune, organized a National Symposium on “Revisiting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Contemporary India: Reflections on Socio-Economic & Political Sphere” on 13th April 2023 at Poona College Conference Hall.
The Principal of the College, Professor Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, gave the welcome address and welcomed all the guests and participants. Dr. Shaikh also highlighted the theme of the symposium and the relevance of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in present-day situations.
The Director of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, SPPU, was the Chief Guest of the symposium. Professor Dr. Vilas Adhav focused on the life of Dr. Ambedkar and stated that Dr. Ambedkar was a man of many talents and professions. He added that for Dr. Ambedkar, direction is more important than distance. He shed light on the struggles of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and his contributions to resolving the economic and social issues of Indian society at his time.
A resource person, Sarita Das Bhattacharya, recited a poem on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar covering his life and work effectively. She emphasized the efforts taken by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in making our Constitution based on the foundation of equality, fraternity, and liberty.
On the occasion, the winners of the National Level Elocution Competition organized by Poona College were awarded. The Program Coordinator, Dr. Mukhtar Shaikh, presented the objectives of the National Symposium.
Moinuddin Khan, Vice Principal, Dr. Iqbal Shaikh, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. M. Shahid Jamal Ansari, Head of the Department of Economics, and coordinator were also present at the symposium. Dr. Shakir Shaikh, Dr. Baba Shaikh, Dr. Ahmad Shamshad, Dr. Gulnawaz, Dr. Vidyasagar, Prof. Milind, Prof. Waseem took special efforts to make this event a grand success. A total of 130 students benefited from this event, and teachers participated in large numbers.
Saba compared the session, Shaheena Khan recited a few verses from the Holy Quran, and Arshad introduced the guests of the session. Suneara presented the vote of thanks. Arshad, Shadab, Numan, Saif, Uzma Fatima took efforts for the successful completion of this program.
