Poona College in collaboration with IIT Bombay organizes NPTEL Awareness Online Workshop

Pune, 23rd August 2023: The Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune, in collaboration with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay organized NPTEL Awareness Online Workshop on Monday, 14th of August 2023. The online event was live-streamed on YouTube and attended by faculty members and students of Poona College, along with many participants from across India.

The event was inaugurated by the Principal Prof. Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh who also welcomed all the participants and provided detailed information about the courses, student strength and other salient features of the college. He encouraged the staff and students of the college to enroll for the MOOCs available on SWAYAM / NPTEL portal to get certified eventually helping them in their career development.

The keynote speaker of the workshop was Ms. Nisha Thakur from IIT Bombay who provided a detailed overview of NPTEL and “How NPTEL is Changing the Landscape of Online Education in India.”. She also discussed the various features of NPTEL, such as its interactive lectures, video tutorials, doubt-solving sessions, types of certificates, grading system, statistical details regarding no. of video lectures, enrollments, details of local chapters, career opportunities, etc. including tips on how to make the most of NPTEL courses. She also described the credit transfer scheme available on the portal.

Earlier the Director of the Knowledge Resource Centre Dr. Shaikh Muhammad Zuber who also is the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) of the NPTEL Local chapter at the college elaborated on the significance of NPTEL courses, initiatives, performance and enrolment statistics of the College Local Chapter. He also highlighted the popularization techniques by the local chapter for MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) through induction programs and library visits.

Thereafter the question-and-answer session was highly fruitful for clarifying various queries related to credit point transfers, multiple enrollments, career prospects, fee waivers etc. posted by the students through YouTube live comments. The keynote speaker Ms. Nisha Thakur clarified all of them efficiently. Finally, the live event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Muhammad Zuber.
