Poona Merchants Chamber Launches 38th Annual Ladu-Chivda Initiative to Make Diwali Sweet for Citizens
Pune, 15th October 2025: With the aim of making Diwali sweeter for the common citizen, the Poona Merchants Chamber has launched its 38th annual Ladu-Chivda initiative, continuing its tradition of selling the festive treats at a fair price based on the principle of neither profit nor loss. This year, the chamber plans to produce 2.5 lakh kg of Ladu-Chivda, of which 5,000 kg have already been sent to farmers in Marathwada, a region that has been affected by heavy rains.
A dedicated sales center has been set up to make Ladu-Chivda available to citizens at ₹190 per kg, with half-kilo packets also on offer. Over the years, this initiative has been recognized in the Guinness Book of Records, the Limca Book of Records, and, most recently, the London Book of Records.
Speaking about the initiative, Rajendra Badhiya, President of the Poona Merchants Chamber, said, “Our aim has always been to make Diwali accessible and joyful for every citizen. This year, with 2.5 lakh kg of Ladu-Chivda, we are continuing our 38-year legacy of service and community support.”
Pravin Chorbole, Office Bearer of the Poona Merchants Chamber, added, “More than 700 workers are involved in this project, all medically examined to ensure hygiene and safety. Under the guidance of Pappu Maharaj from Rajasthan, we are preparing the laddus and chivdas round the clock. This initiative not only brings joy to citizens but also provides significant employment opportunities for men and women.”
The chamber emphasizes that all Ladu-Chivda is prepared under strict supervision, ensuring excellent packaging and cleanliness, making it a highlight of Pune’s festive season year after year.
