Poonam Sood takes home the crown of ‘Mrs Radiance’
Pune, December, 2020: It was literally a childhood dream come true for the Pune based fashion designer, Poonam Sood who took home the crown of ‘Mrs Radiance’ in Silver Category in Mrs West India 2020 – Empress of Mrs West India Season 3, which was held at held at the Alila Diwa Goa, on 28th Nov 2020.
“It was a dream from a very young age to participate in a beauty pageant. But hailing from a humble background, from Meerut, these opportunities never came. And being the daughter of an army man, it’s in the blood to never give up and fight till the last breath. So I waited for the right time”, smiles Poonam. And the right time came when DIVA Pageants announced their prestigious Mrs West India 2020 pageant.
“Actually, post-marriage I stopped working towards this thought of walking on the ramp. But when I got to know about Mrs West India pageant, I rekindled the dream to participate in such an event. I registered for the event, with very little hope of making it through. And I got selected for the Finale round, which was a huge morale booster for me. The finale was set in Goa. And by then I learnt I was expecting my second child. I was thrown in a dilemma, I did not know whether to participate or let go. But with newfound confidence and the killer instinct to do it, I took the plunge, and went on to not just participate, but also win the Mrs Radiance title”, beams Poonam, a fashion designer by profession and mother to 5 year old Vedika.
“Needless to say, this fascinating journey would not have been possible without encouragement and support from my family, especially from my husband , Shirish, who helped me in taking this decision and guided me at each and every step, inspite of his busy schedule, being a professional lawyer”. She also expresses deep gratitude to Anjana and Karl Mascarenhas, founders of DIVA Pageants, for their consistent guidance and motivation with which she “realized the golden opportunity” that was before her.
A graduate in BSc Fashion Designing from JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Poonam was always fascinated with the latest fashion trends, fabrics, designs, etc. and has set up a boutique of her own in Pune.
Poonam is happiest when her daughter Vedika addresses her as ‘Mumma Queen’. “If I get another opportunity, I would like to relive the beautiful four days of my life, that has given me a new lease of life, and a great opportunity to showcase my talent”, she concludes.
