Pune, 21st May 2024: A special court today remanded owner of Cosie and manager of Blak club at Marriott Suites, where minor driver of Porsche car was served liquor, has been reminded to police custody till May 24.

The name of the accused are Cosie hotel’s owner Naman Bhutada, bar counter manager Katkar and Blak club manager Sandeep Sangle.

They all face charges under Sections 3, 5, and 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, as well as Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015.

Police Inspector Mane submitted to the court that Blak club is only for members but in this case minors were given entry and served liquor. Also, they have separate area for wine serving but it is without CCTV camera. “We want to investigate whether it is regular thing to serve liquor to minors. Also, we need to find on whose membership the teen driver was given entry”, he submitted to the court.

Adv Asim Sarode, who argued on an intervention application on behalf of citizens, submitted that the incident has led to fear in the minds of pedestrians and commuters. However, there should not have been two FIRs.

Defence lawyer SK Jain submitted that the FIR should not have been registered for non-cognisable offences under Juvenile Justice Act.

However, the public prosecutor argued that sections of Motor Vehicles Act are also invoked.

After hearing both sides, the judge remanded the three arrested accused to police custody till May 24.

The judge remarked that the pub owners must ensure that minors are not served liquor. And if anybody has consumed then they should ensure that they do not drive and make arrangements to sleep there.
