Yerwada, 20th May 2024: A reckless driving incident involving a minor led to a tragic accident near Landmark Garden Society on Kalyani Nagar-Airport Road around 3 am on Sunday.

A grey Porsche, driven without license plates, hit a Pulsar motorcycle from behind, resulting in the deaths of IT engineers Ashwini Koshta (24) and Aneesh Awadhiya (24), both hailing from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The driver, who is 17-years and eight months old, was detained and produced before the court which released him on bail. An FIR was registered against him at Yerawada Police Station.

The minor, who had recently passed his Class 12th examination, confessed to attending a party at Cosie bar on ABC Road in Mundhwa with 10 to 12 friends. He stated that they were seated at table number 15 and ordered food items such as Cosie Chicken and Spicy Chicken Bao, along with alcoholic beverages including Absolute Blue, Hoegaarden, JW Black Label, and other liquors.

Investigations revealed that the hotel owner, Naman Prahlad Bhutda, and manager Sachin Ashok Katkar, allowed the minor and his friends to consume alcohol without verifying their ages. CCTV footage confirmed that he was served alcohol at the hotel from 9:30 pm to midnight on May 18 (Saturday).

He also admitted to visiting Blak Club at Marriott Suites in Koregaon Park from midnight to 1 am on May 19 (Sunday), where he continued to consume alcohol. Blak Club’s owner, Sandeep Ramesh Sangle, and bar counter manager, Jayesh Satish Bonkar, also served him liquor without age verification.

Moreover, his father, Vishal Agarwal, permitted him to drive the grey Porsche, despite knowing that he was untrained and did not possess a driving license. He also allowed his son to attend the party and consume alcohol.

Legal action has been initiated under several sections of the law. The charges include violations of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, specifically Sections 75 and 77, and the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, Sections 3, 5, and 199(a). The accused in the FIR include hotel owners and managers—Naman Prahlad Bhutda, Sachin Ashok Katkar, Sandeep Ramesh Sangle, and Jayesh Satish Bonkar—as well as his father, Vishal Agarwal, owner of Bramha Realty and Infrastructure.
