Pimpri, 3 March 2021: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be installing solar panels in three major slum areas in the city. These areas include Shantinagar, Vitthalnagar, and Dattanagar.

The pilot project will be given either to Broadcast Engineering Consultant India Limited or Savitribai Phule Pune University on a contractual basis.

The step is to maintain good health and hygiene in these slum areas. This will also help in the reduction in the use of electricity. Solar energy will also save the residents from the pollutants like carbon, nitro oxide, and sulfur oxide released from the electricity.

Under this project, solar panels will be erected at the roof-tops, and through solar photo voltik panel, electricity will be generated. The power generated will be connected to MSEDCL. It will also reduce the monthly electricity bills of the residents.

They can burn tube-light, home lite set, and one fan. Solar panels and battery back inverters will be made available to them.

PCMC’s slum rehabilitation department will be carrying out this project while the budget will be made available through the city development department. The proposal was approved during the Standing Committee meeting held on February 16.
