President of India condoles the loss of lives due to bridge collapse in Maharashtra

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the loss of lives in a bridge collapse on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Konkan region of Maharashtra.

In a message to Shri Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, the Governor of Maharashtra, the President has said “I am sad to learn about the accident in which some people were washed away when a bridge on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Konkan region of Maharashtra collapsed due to heavy rains today. I understand that few bodies have been recovered and further search and rescue operations are currently underway.

I am sure the State Government and other agencies are providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families of the deceased. Kindly ask concerned authorities to make speedy efforts to rescue remaining survivors. Necessary action may please be also taken to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure that such mistakes do not happen in future.

Kindly convey my heartfelt condolences to family members of the deceased. I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss”.
