Pune, 13th February 2024: A fraudulent caller, posing as an armyman, swindled Rs 20.83 lakh from the purchase manager of an automotive company in September last year under the pretext of renting his brother’s flat in Karvenagar.

Last month, the 43-year-old victim filed a complaint application related to the incident with the cyber police. Following verification, the Warje police officially registered a case of cheating on Sunday.

Inspector Ajay Kulkarni of the Warje police stated, “The victim had posted an online advertisement to rent out his brother’s flat. The scammer, claiming to be an Army man transferred to Khadki, contacted the complainant. To establish credibility, the imposter sent a fake ID card, convincing the victim that renting the flat would secure tax and other central government benefits.”
