Pune, 5th January 2024: Commissioner Vikram Kumar of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into unauthorized constructions in the city. He has mandated a report detailing the number of notices issued for unauthorized constructions in the last three years, the actions taken, and the reasons for any lack of action.

The focus on this investigation has led Junior Engineers to prioritize compiling notices and preparing reports, sidelining other responsibilities. Simultaneously, the construction department has taken swift action against 11 unauthorized buildings in Ambegaon Budruk, contributing to concerns among unauthorized builders while raising questions about the efficiency of the municipal corporation.

Notices were issued to buildings in Ambegaon Budruk in 2021, but no action was taken at that time. However, in December 2023, action was suddenly taken against 500 flats, causing losses for common citizens who had purchased flats in the past two years.

Commissioner Vikram Kumar convened a meeting to address these issues and formed a committee consisting of Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binwade and City Engineer Prashant Waghmare. This committee has been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report on notices issued over the past three years.

The next meeting on this matter is scheduled for January 12. Additional Commissioner Binwade has instructed a review meeting on Thursday (January 4) to expedite the report. Junior Engineers and Deputy Engineers across all zones of the Building Permission Department are actively gathering information on unauthorized construction notices issued in the last three years, sifting through old files and digital records.
