‘Grand’ Airport Planned for Pune, Announces Tourism Minister Shripad Naik

Pune, 5th January 2024: In a significant announcement, Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik revealed plans for the construction of a grand airport in Pune, highlighting the ongoing infrastructure development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Emphasizing India’s trajectory to become a medical hub, Naik assured the expansion of facilities, including the extension of the existing runway.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday evening, Minister Naik outlined the government’s roadmap for the airport’s development, with the inauguration of the terminal expected before the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the audience, Naik also discussed the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme, urging everyone to take the initiative to help patients access medical facilities under the scheme, which covers expenses up to 5 lakh.

The press conference, hosted at Hotel Ritz Carlton on behalf of Ruby Hall Clinic, covered various topics. Dr. Parvez Grant, Head of Ruby Hall Clinic, Ali Daruwala, Adviser of the National Commission for Minorities, and Behram Khodaiji were among the dignitaries present.

Minister Naik commended Ruby Hall Clinic for its modern healthcare services and assured support from the central and state governments to further enhance medical tourism. He expressed the vision for India to become a global medical hub, offering world-class treatment at affordable rates, including the establishment of wellness centers.

Highlighting the importance of service over profit in the medical sector, Naik praised Ruby Hall’s efforts and urged organizations in the sector to contribute towards providing quality service at a reasonable cost.

Dr Grant emphasized the need for high-quality infrastructure, such as an airport, for medical tourism to thrive in Pune. He announced the introduction of a state-of-the-art system at Ruby Hall by April, aiming to elevate medical tourism to the level of the information technology sector.

Khodaiji welcomed the initiatives, and the event saw the presence of Dr. Simon Grant and other dignitaries.
