Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav Appointed as Director of the School of Education
Pune, 6th June 2023: Professor Dr. Vilas Adhav, Head of the Economics Department and Director of Lifelong Learning & Extension Department at Savitribai Phule Pune University, has been appointed as the Director of the School of Education. Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav assumed the role of Director on 6th June 2023.
Prof. Adhav began his career as an Economics lecturer at Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Nasrapur, District Pune, in 1992. Over the years, he has held various positions at the Adult, Continuous Learning and Extension Department, including Project Officer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Reader. Currently, he serves as a Professor and Director of the Lifelong Learning and Extension Department, in addition to his responsibilities as the Head of the Economics Department. Prof. Adhav has actively participated in numerous national and international seminars and workshops.
He has contributed over 300 articles on Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, the progressive movement, and the upliftment of marginalized communities to various newspapers, magazines, and periodicals. Between 1999 and 2022, he has authored approximately 23 books in Marathi and English. Prof. Adhav boasts a rich experience of 30 years in the fields of teaching, research, and extension.
Prof. Adhav was specially invited by the officials of Mahachulang Cornraja International University to participate in a three-day program organized by the United Nations and the Royal Thai Government on the occasion of the 12th United Nations Day. He has served as a Board of Studies (BOS) member for the Adult, Continuous Learning, and Extension Department at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. Prof. Adhav also holds memberships in the Academic Council, Senate, and RR committee of the Lifelong Learning and Extension Department at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Furthermore, he is a member of the Economics BOS for institutions such as Spicer International University and SP College, Pune. Prof. Adhav is widely recognized as a researcher and guide in the fields of adult learning, economics, and commerce.
For his contributions to education, Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav received the Best Education Expert Award from the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2006. He has also been honored with numerous national and international awards. Recently, his research book titled “Chirebandi Krishibajar ani Durbal Shetkari” received the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Best Book Consolation Prize for 2021-22, awarded by the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Studies Centre at Savitribai Phule Pune University on 21st April 2022. The book has also been included in the Marathi books recommended by the Book Selection Committee and received by the Maharashtra Government, Higher and Technical Education Department, Library Directorate, Mumbai, among the books published in 2019 and 2020.
Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav’s appointment as the Director of the School of Education at Savitribai Phule Pune University has garnered congratulations from all sections of society.
