Proposal for Underground Tunnels to Solve Central Pune’s Traffic Woes

Pune, 5th March 2025: A new proposal for constructing underground tunnels connecting Shaniwarwada to Swargate and Sarasbaug to Shaniwarwada aims to alleviate the growing traffic congestion in central Pune and improve commuter experience. Kasba Peth MLA Hemant Rasane has been actively pursuing this initiative to transform the city’s transportation landscape.
In a significant move to address Pune’s central area traffic problems, MLA Hemant Rasane recently met with Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale to discuss the proposed underground tunnel project. During the meeting, Rasane urged Minister Bhosale to convene an urgent meeting of relevant officials to fast-track the project’s approval. Responding positively, Bhosale assured that a meeting with department officials would be scheduled within the next week. He also pledged full government support to bring the project to fruition.
In addition to the tunnel project, Rasane raised concerns about the stalled construction of the Mamledar Kacheri in Shukrawar Peth, seeking to accelerate its completion.
