PUBG MOBILE wins Game of the Year at Google Play’s Best of 2018
3 JAN 2019 : Ever since its launch in India, the game has taken the country by storm and won the tag of India’s favorite pastime. Here’s a quick look at the phenomenon that is, PUBG MOBILE.
Tencent’s PUBG Mobile was the most installed mobile game worldwide in Q1. It was also downloaded more than any other game in the U.S. previous quarter, despite having launched in mid-March. PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG) became the world’s most installed mobile game with more than 50 million downloads in the quarter.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Most recently, at the Best of 2018 Awards by Google, PUBG MOBILE was awarded the Best Game of 2018 by Google Play India. The game also took home the same award globally. The game was awarded the Most Competitive Game of 2018 as well. It has found its place as India’s Game of Choice, through its realistic gameplay and unmatched authenticity. It is only natural that the game was also awarded with the User’s Choice Award of 2018, globally. This was coincidentally the first time that Google introduced fan-favorite category for users to vote. The ease of connectivity, interactive access with other players etc. make this game nothing like anything ever before in the Indian mobile gaming space. Notably, PUBG Mobile also won the Best Mobile Game Award at 2018 Golden Joystick Awards, held at Los Angeles California. The game was also nominated for best mobile game at the Game Awards 2018.
NUMBERS GAME
According to the latest Store Intelligence Data Digest from Sensor Tower, PUBG was downloaded more times than Snapchat, YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify. PUBG MOBILE it was the second-most downloaded app on iOS with around 40 million installs. This number doesn’t include players in China. In the spring of 2018, it reached the top of the gaming charts in 105 countries and regions within only a week.
More than just the game, the response to PUBG MOBILE’s events in the recent past are testimony to the fame of the game in the country. The PUBG MOBILE Campus Championship was India’s first mega eSports tournament. The tournament saw about 2,50,000 registrations and 40,000 check-ins from over 1000 colleges across 30+ cities. While 20 teams made it to the Grand Finals in Bangalore, the best PUBG MOBILE talent was on display in this truly national extravaganza. PUBG MOBILE looks to drive the eSports ecosystem in the country with many such events in the pipeline. The Campus Championship was India’s biggest eSports tournament with a prize pool unheard of in Indian eSports history. The total prize pool stood at INR 5,000,000. The winning team took home a stunning cash prize of INR 1,500,000.
