Pune: 1200 Disabled People Get Certificates At Home
Pune, 9th February 2023: Due to the initiative of the Social Justice and Health Department of Zilla Parishad (ZP), 1,194 persons with disabilities in Pune have received disability certificates at home. This certificate has now paved the way for these congenitally disabled persons to avail the benefits of central and state government schemes.
All of them are disabled, but only because of the lack of disability certificates, they were deprived of the benefits of government schemes till now. But all of them will now be able to get financial support through government schemes, said District Social Welfare Officer Praveen Korgantiwar.
Various schemes are implemented by the central and state governments to provide financial support to the disabled. But to avail of these schemes it is mandatory to submit a disability certificate issued by the competent authorities.
Due to the lack of this certificate, these disabled people were deprived of the benefits of government schemes. The social justice department of Zilla Parishad decided to take the initiative and according to this, special camps were organized at the taluka level to give disability certificates to the disabled.
According to this, seven camps have been organized so far, two at Baramati, two each at the District Hospital of Aundh at Manchar (Ambegaon) and one at Bhor. Apart from this, another camp has been organized at Bhor on February 10.
A survey conducted on behalf of the Zilla Parishad revealed that only because of this certificate, more than four thousand disabled people in the Pune district have been deprived of the benefits of government schemes.
After this survey, the Zilla Parishad itself has taken the initiative to get these disabled people their disability certificates. For this, a proposal has been sent to the District Surgeons of Aundh Hospital on behalf of the Social Justice Department of the Zilla Parishad.
According to this proposal, it was demanded that special disability certificate camps should be organized taluka-wise for disabled people who do not have disability certificates to get their right disability certificate. After the proposal was approved by the district hospital, these camps were organized in phases from December 16.
Taluka-wise lists were prepared on behalf of the Social Justice Department of the Zilla Parishad to provide certificates to the differently abled in the district. According to these lists, a day was fixed for each taluk by the District Surgeon. On this fixed day, all the disabled persons of the respective talukas were brought to the district hospital or campsite with the help of the Taluka Health Officer and Taluka Social Justice Officer. Vehicles from primary health centres were used to transport these disabled people to the campsite.
