Pune: 19,000 Voters Over 80 Years Of Age Registered For Kasba By-Elections, Election Commission Offers Postal Ballot For Elderly

Pune, 9th February 2023: For the first time, the Election Commission has made it possible for voters above 80 years of age to vote from home through postal ballot. There are 19,000 voters in Kasba constituency who are above 80 years of age. So far, 49 people have submitted applications for postal voting.

The Central Election Commission has emphasized on voter convenience oriented elections. In order to increase the percentage of voting, for the by-elections of Kasba and Chinchwad assembly constituencies, the administration is going door-to-door and providing information about the facilities available for voting for senior citizens, physically challenged citizens, and others. Efforts are being made by the Election Commission to ensure that voters of all levels exercise their right to vote and participate in national affairs. Under that, in order to increase the voting rate in Kasba, Chinchwad Assembly Constituency by-election, election officials are conducting public awareness by visiting the homes of voters above 80 years of age and physically challenged voters.

Meanwhile, for the first time, the Election Commission has provided the facility of voting by postal ballot from home for voters who are above 80 years of age and physically challenged. For that purpose, the voter registration officers and employees are going to the homes of such voters and collecting ‘Sample 12-D’ application form from the aspirants. So far 49 citizens have filled this type of application form the town. Kasba Constituency has 19 thousand voters who are above 80 years of age. Pune City Tehsildar Radhika Havel-Bartakke has appealed to maximum number of such voters to take advantage of this facility, for that, fill up the sample 12-D application form .

Facilities for special voters
Facilities such as wheel chair (wheel chair) for physically challenged voters, voting machine (EVM) with Braille script for blind voters, transport facility from home to polling station etc. are provided at polling station. Coordinating Officer Ajay Pawar has informed about this in Chinchwad Assembly Constituency.
