Pune: 13 UK Returnees Infected With Coronavirus In The City Among 70 In The State; Health Officials Trace More Passengers

Pune, January 4, 2021: Around 70 UK returnees have been tested positive for the Coronavirus in Maharashtra till yesterday. Among these, thirteen infected are from Pune. Their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) to find out the genetic variations of all these infected people; reports are awaited. The health department is tracing down more passengers who have returned from Britain in Maharashtra and those who come in contact with them for tests.

So far, the health department has been able to trace around 4,820 passengers who flew from Britain to the state. However, the number of passengers who have arrived in Maharashtra seems to be increasing. Of them, 805 have completed 28 days in India. Out of the total passengers, 3,374 were tested for RTPCR. So far, 70 people have been diagnosed with COVID. Samples of 64 of those infected have been sent to NIV for genetic analysis.

The number of patients in Pune is 13 and has not increased. 30 people have been infected in Mumbai and eight in Thane. Nine people have been infected in Nagpur and two each in Nashik, Aurangabad, Raigad and Buldhana. In Nanded, Washim district, one person has contracted coronavirus, stated the health department.

Among the 64 infected people whose samples have been sent to NIV for testing their genetic variations, six reports are expected to arrive soon. So far, 448 people who have come in contact with these people have been traced. Of these, 289 have been tested and 30 people tested positive, informed the health officials.
