Pune: 15-Year-Old Boy Dies, Five Injured in Cylinder Blast at Undri High-Rise
Undri, 26th September 2025: At around 2:30 pm today, a massive fire broke out in flat number 1201, Wing F, on the 12th floor of the 14-storey Marvel Ideal Society, located on Jagdamba Bhavan Road in Undri.
The fire department immediately dispatched five fire engines, one BA set van, two water tankers, one hydraulic ladder vehicle, and a government ambulance (108) to the spot.
Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said, “On arrival, firefighters were confronted with intense flames and heavy smoke. They began firefighting operations by raising hose pipes and simultaneously checked the premises for trapped residents.
During the operation, two gas cylinders in the kitchen suddenly exploded, injuring three residents and two firefighters. A 15-year-old boy was also rescued from the flat in a critically injured condition, but, despite efforts, the boy tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The blaze was brought under control within about 30 minutes, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. However, the entire flat was completely gutted. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.”
In a preliminary observation, officials noted that the permanent fire extinguishing system in the building had been switched off.
“An inquiry has been ordered after it was observed that the fire suppression system was disabled at the primary level. This system is installed for the safety of residents and their families. All housing societies across the city must ensure their fire safety mechanisms remain functional and in proper working condition,” said the Fire Chief.
The deceased boy has been identified as Tarsha Kamal Khaitan and the injured firemen Vishwajit Wagh and Prithviraj Khedkar.
