Pune: 1,500 Women Rally for Bapusaheb Pathare, Highlighting Women’s Issues in Vadgaonsheri
Vadgaonsheri, 16th November 2024: A bike rally was organised in support of Bapusaheb Pathare, the Mahavikas Aghadi candidate from the Vadgaonsheri constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. The rally, attended by NCP-SP Women Maharashtra Vice President Ashwini Mahangade, along with many other women, saw around 1,500 participants all chanting their support for NCP-SP.
The rally began at Rajmata Jijau Oxygen Park in Vadgaonsheri, where participants paid floral tributes to a portrait of Jijau. It concluded at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Chandan Nagar. The rally aimed to highlight the issues faced by women in the constituency, particularly the lack of toilets, inadequate street lighting, safety concerns, water issues, and the need for better shuttle services.
Speaking at the rally, Bapusaheb Pathare stated, “In the sitting MLA Tingre’s report, it was stated that there is a Jijamata statue in Jijamata Udyan Oxygen Park, but no one has seen this statue. Today, we had to pay tribute by placing her portrait, but once elected, I will ensure a statue of Jijau is erected here.” He added, “In the last 10 years, no concrete work has been done for the empowerment and security of women in the constituency. The fundamental issues facing women have been virtually ignored.”
Pathare also promised to prioritise initiatives such as providing space at the airport for products made by self-help groups, setting up toilets in various areas, and organising self-defence camps and special training for women and girls. Ashwini Mahangade expressed her support for Pathare’s candidacy and voiced confidence that a Mahavikas Aghadi government will be formed in the state.
